Berlin, Germany, December 2011: After an intense development period, German companies AFMG and DSPECIALISTS have released the AUBION X.8, an 8-input high-end measurement device utilizing standard Ethernet as the means of connection. The X.8 was purpose-designed for highly accurate and stable performance with professional audio measurement systems such as AFMG’s EASERA and SysTune. A sophisticated hardware/driver combination and a brilliantly simple user interface help avoid network hassle and tedious tuning.

“What sound technician or system integrator has not dreamt of a simple multi-channel measurement interface he could use for tuning his systems?” asks Stefan Feistel, Manager of AFMG. “Maybe even one connected by Ethernet to avoid the limitations of USB and FireWire and to be able to transfer calibrated data smoothly in and out of SysTune, either on a PC or within Parallels on the Mac? – In collaboration with DSPECIALISTS, we have now been able to accomplish exactly that!” Feistel rejoices.

“Our main focus was on designing an easy-to-use system for high-precision acoustic measurements.” adds Dr. Jochen Cronemeyer, Managing Director of DSPECIALISTS. “As a result we created the very user-friendly AUBION X.8 suitable for multiple fields of application like room-acoustic measurements, designing and testing loudspeakers or commissioning sound systems.”

The AUBION X.8 is a high-quality, fully ASIO compatible audio measurement interface with 8 inputs and 2 outputs that can be used in a standard Ethernet environment. The X.8 even comes with a built-in 2-port Ethernet switch allowing users to simply insert it into an existing network connection. AUBION X.8 devices are auto-detected by the driver and can be plugged in and out of the network without losing their configuration or assignment to a PC. When designing the AUBION hardware, DSPECIALISTS have used only state-of-the-art components giving a truly high-end audio performance with a dynamic range of 110dB (unweighted) on inputs and outputs with an astonishing signal-to-noise ratio (THD+N) of below 0,001%.

Seamless Measurement Integration with AFMG SysTune and EASERA

The AUBION X.8 integrates itself into Windows XP, Vista, and 7 as a standard ASIO multi-client audio device which can be addressed by any ASIO compatible software running on the system. Used in conjunction with one of AFMG´s measurement programs SysTune or EASERA, the X.8 has a major advantage over other audio interfaces: Any gain adjustments made in the GUI or directly on the device are transferred to the software thus maintaining any calibrations made. This is a priceless feature especially when performing calibrated measurements in live sound situations. (Remark May 2013: Gain adjustment integration with EASERA will be available with EASERA Version 1.3 expected for fall 2013.)

The rugged 1RU half rack-space design makes the X.8 the ideal traveling companion for any engineer or technician frequently installing and tuning large loudspeaker systems, including line arrays, using a number of microphones simultaneously. It is also ideal for complex measurements of room acoustics at multiple locations. Together with EASERA or SysTune the AUBION X.8 creates a unique full-function hardware and software solution for audio and systems engineers to achieve precision live sound system tuning and monitoring.

Prices and Distribution

The AUBION X.8 is now available worldwide directly through DSPECIALISTS. The announced retail price is 1,400 EUR / approx. 1,950 USD. A limited number of devices will be selling at an introductory price of 1,100 EUR / 1,500 USD. To purchase the AUBION X.8 together with EASERA or SysTune, please contact AFMG. http://afmg.eu

Berlin, Germany, November 2011: IOSONO, a leading provider of spatial audio systems and Berlin-based AFMG, creators of EASE, the industry-standard for simulation of room acoustics, recently teamed up to develop a strikingly new approach to making virtual acoustical environments audible. “Architects, their clients, engineers or even movie sound designers will enter into a new world of possibilities to engulf listeners in the sound of a virtual surrounding,” explains Frank Melchior, CTO at IOSONO.

“Just imagine that a number of listeners can all enjoy an identical acoustical experience at the same time, no matter where in the room they are sitting,” adds Stefan Feistel, Manager of AFMG. He continues, “Architects will hold their presentations not only with a slideshow of photo-realistic pictures but talking live within the acoustical situation of the room simulated in EASE. Designs of concert halls, cinemas, sound recording studios can all benefit significantly by such a solution.”

The two companies will employ IOSONO’s IPC100 audio processor and dedicated realtime convolution filters calculated by EASE to render a spatially oriented auralization throughout a large listening area. The IPC100 ideally expands the virtual sound field even of small to mid-sized loudspeaker arrangements using IOSONO’s spatial reproduction algorithms based on wave-field synthesis. A listener’s turn of the head will give the same impression as turning inside the venue auralized.

“IOSONO is offering innovative, flexible 3D audio systems that provide great, additional opportunities for the high quality binaural auralizations produced by EASE. It is important for us to make use of this state-of-the-art technology,” Stefan Feistel remarks. One of IOSONO’s latest installations is the Grand Cinema Digiplex in Romania’s capital Bucharest. Using EASE the IOSONO team simulated the cinema’s acoustics, even before the auditorium was built. The top screen features an IOSONO sound system with 59 speakers and 4 additional subwoofers.

Frank Melchior says: “EASE allows for a fast verification of acoustic environments and system designs far more realistic than its competitors. It has proven a very useful tool for us. AFMG has a strong background in simulation and auralization and we’re looking forward to be working with them on new pro audio solutions.” IOSONO has successfully used EASE for acoustical simulation of its spatial sound systems in many cases in the past. A dynamic binaural simulation module, tailored by AFMG to the needs of IOSONO, enables a high resolution preview of an IOSONO installation during the planning phase, providing a sound basis for every project.

Berlin, Germany, September 2011...  AFMG reached an important milestone recently when Belgian manufacturer APart Audio became the 100th pro audio company to enter its loudspeakers into the EASE database.

”We’re very proud to have reached this level of participation,” said Stefan Feistel, AFMG’s Managing Director. “EASE has become an industry standard not only because of its advanced and accurate calculation engine, but because designers can simulate and evaluate a wide range of products. With its emphasis on meeting the full range of customer requirements through continual R&D efforts, APart is the perfect company to become the 100th member of the EASE community.”

For APart, the major investment in EASE data measurement is an opportunity to win additional projects. Kris Vermuyten, Sales and Marketing Director for APart, declared “Unlike most of our competitors, we committed the cost and effort required to publish EASE GLL data for our entire loudspeaker range. We’re happy to do this, because one of our prime missions is to create a partnership with our distributors and installers. EASE adds value for them as an efficient and convincing way to document the sales case for end customers and decision makers.”

Stefan Feistel gave a presentation on EASE to more than eighty APart sales partners at the company’s recent Distributor Meeting in Antwerp. After an overview of EASE, the talk went into more detail on acoustical simulation, raytracing, loudspeaker and sound system evaluation, as well as auralization. “Our distributors were overwhelmed by the power of EASE, and excited about the possibilities that our investment in a complete set of EASE loudspeaker data has created for them,“ said APart’s Product Release Manager Wim Corten.

AFMG Reflex Released!

2011-03-28 14:40

AFMG Reflex

Berlin, Germany, March 2011... German software manufacturer AFMG, renowned for professional solutions simulating room acoustics, just released the first commercial software able to model the reflection, diffusion, and scattering of a sound wave by a defined geometrical structure. AFMG Reflex is available in two versions: the basic version aims at advanced home studio designs, home theater installations and other semi-professional applications. Reflex Standard offers unlimited features for acoustic consultants, architects, and sophisticated users of EASE.

With Reflex, AFMG makes another big step forward in enhancing the quality for simulation of room acoustics. Besides professionals working with acoustical simulations every day, the software also benefits owners of high-end home studios or similar audio setups.

Within AFMG Reflex the shape of a reflective surface is entered as a two-dimensional cross-section. The reflective properties are displayed as a polar response graph for any angle of incidence and frequency of a sound wave. The scattering and diffusion coefficients are shown as frequency response graphs. Result data can be compared for different angles, frequencies and models and saved directly as a report document. This makes it easy to optimize both diffusers as well as room arrangement.

AFMG Reflex for Professional Home Studios and Home Theater Installations

Users of Reflex Basic can quickly and easily investigate existing installations of diffusers and wall surfaces and use Reflex to save time and money designing optimized diffusers for small to mid-sized setups. The software can be used to evaluate diffuser quality and to tune audio installations and room design for one optimal listener´s position as well as for a wider area.

AFMG Reflex for Acoustic Consultants, Architects, and Sophisticated Users of EASE

Professionals will opt for Reflex Standard. Size and complexity of surfaces are unlimited and calculated scattering coefficients can be exported directly into EASE wall material files. Standard version users can view multiple surface models simultaneously and compare their performance in detail. Users of the EASE room-acoustic module AURA now find AFMG Reflex as an indispensable tool for calculating the necessary scattering coefficients.

Complex and realistic simulations for room acoustics have become more and more important in the recent past. AFMG Reflex is the first commercial software to compute scattering coefficients and thus bridge the gap between using measured absorption coefficients of materials and rule-of-thumb estimates of their respective scattering coefficients. Any 2D-extruded geometrical surface design can now be modeled. Results can be used to greatly improve simulations especially of acoustically challenging environments.

Pricing and Distribution

The basic version of AFMG Reflex will be selling at 250 € excl. VAT. It is limited to 20 geometrical elements; it cannot export to EASE material files and can only load one model at a time. AFMG Reflex Standard has an unlimited feature set. The announced retail price will be 500 € net. Expansion licenses for both programs are available at a 20% discount.
AFMG will handle the worldwide distribution through their website and online store located at www.afmg.eu.
